Many customers have problems such as "my sublimation appears white dot", "when I sublimate, colored spots appear" and "why do colored spots appear when I sublimate? This is a fairly common problem and in this article, we will see the possible causes and how we can put a solution in place.

White dots when printing with sublimation paper

1、Use quality materials
It is the foundation for producing a successful result, so be certain that all of the materials ensure competent performance.

Sublimation Inks: Use high-quality inks to achieve rich, vivid colors, crisp contours, and long-lasting prints.
Sublimation paper: When it comes to ensuring that the ink transfer is done correctly, the paper is crucial. If you use cheap paper, your design will most likely run out of ink in some areas, resulting in white spots and lighter areas.
Customizable: To achieve good ink adhesion and a homogeneous finish, the rigid blank product that you are going to sublimate must have a good quality polyester coating. The same is true for fabrics; ensure that their composition is 100 percent polyester to achieve maximum color sharpness and intensity.

2、Check the status of your printer
Before we address the issue of dots appearing in the sublimation, it is critical that we check the head of our printer for any obstructions.
Sublimation inks are water-based, so ink may have dried on the print head and clogged the print head. If this happens, the problem of the dots (whether white or of another color) in the sublimation comes from the printing phase, since it is the printer that is producing them.
To resolve this, clean the printer head. Find your printer model and follow the manufacturer's instructions step by step, testing printing until the problem is resolved.
The clogging of the heads can also cause Banding issues, which we will discuss in another post.

3、Next step: Transferring
If the above points are not the cause of the colored spots/spots, it is likely that the origin of the problem is with your heat press machine.
To avoid color issues with sublimation, it is critical that all of your equipment is clean. If the proper precautions are not taken, the plate of your iron is likely to be stained with ink from previous sublimations, and those remains will be transferred in the new sublimations that you make. We always recommend using protective paper between the printed sublimation paper and the hot plate of the iron to avoid this.
It is also critical to ensure that the hot plate distributes the temperature evenly because if there are areas where the temperature is lower, the color transfer from the sublimation paper to the object you are customizing will not be successful. You can use a digital thermometer to check the temperature of your iron, and if you notice that your plate is not heating evenly, you should change the resistance or even buy a new iron.
To conclude this section, keep in mind that you must always adhere to the ironing parameters recommended by the manufacturer of blank products, as each one has different indications due to its composition and characteristics. All of the information on the appropriate ironing parameters can be found in each of our product sheets in our website.

4、Extra recommendations
- If you are going to sublimate a textile, first pass a lint remover brush on the part that you are going to sublimate to remove dust and lint that can cause stains after ironing.
- If you are going to sublimate a rigid product such as mugs or tiles, it is possible that due to environmental conditions they are too cold and you must preheat them for 5 and 10 seconds on the plate before sublimating.
- Store the sublimation paper in a dry place, preserving it from humidity, since if the paper is wet it can generate white spots.

Subtextie hopes these guidelines help you locate and solve your problem with colored spots and sublimation stains. If you have found another solution to this problem, do not hesitate to share it with us.
